Daniel Spalding’s distinguished conducting career includes appearances with many of the world’s top professional orchestras both in concert and in the recording studio. Well known in England, he has recorded with the London Symphony Orchestra for Vienna Modern Masters and Ariel Records, with the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra for Naxos, and has made several guest appearances with the Guildford Philharmonic and the London Mozart Players at St. Martin-in-the-Fields. He has appeared in France with Orchestre de Parisiens and at Eglise de La Madeleine with the Mozart Choir & Orchestra of Paris, in Russia with the National Russian Philharmonic and St. Petersburg Cappella State Symphony Orchestra, in Yugoslavia with the Belgrade Philharmonic, in Romania with almost all the state orchestras and opera companies, including five years as principal guest conductor of the Cluj-Napoca Philharmonic, and in Poland with Filharmonia Opolska. Since 2013, Daniel Spalding has been Music Director of the Capital Philharmonic of New Jersey which performs at the iconic War Memorial Patriots Theater in Trenton.

For the past 33 years, Daniel Spalding has garnered much international acclaim as music director of the Philadelphia Virtuosi Chamber Orchestra. Mr. Spalding has taken the Philadelphia Virtuosi to prestigious venues such as New York’s Lincoln Center, Weill Hall at Carnegie Hall, Columbia University’s Miller Theater, and twice to the Kravis Center for the Performing Arts in West Palm Beach, where it was proclaimed by the Palm Beach Daily News as the “classical highlight of the season”. The orchestra has performed in 29 states, at the Bermuda Festival and on three extensive tours to South America, performing at many important international festivals. In 2010, they made their European debut at the Nomus International Festival in Serbia and they also toured in Mexico. Most recently, the orchestra made a grand tour of Russia with sold out appearances at Tchaikovsky Hall in Moscow and  Mariinsky Concert Hall in Saint Petersburg. The Philadelphia Virtuosi has recorded several CDs for Connoisseur Society, Naxos, New World Records, Ariel Records and Arabesque that have received accolades worldwide, including Gramophone’s “Editor’s Choice”, named one of the top CDs of the year by the Chicago Tribune and the London Observer, and as a finalist for a Grammy award.

Earlier in his career, Daniel Spalding served on the faculty at several universities. He has conducted and coached for the New Jersey Governor’s School of the Arts and the Philadelphia International Music Festival at Bryn Mawr College. Born in Kansas, Daniel earned baccalaureate and master’s degrees at Northwestern University School of Music, concentrating in percussion and composition. After additional graduate work at the University of Illinois, he pursued orchestral conducting studies in Austria at the Salzburg “Mozarteum” with Ferdinand Leitner, in Romania with Mircea Cristescu of the “George Enescu” Bucharest Philharmonic, in the USA with John Shenaut and Max Rudolf, and participated in master classes with Leonard Slatkin and Pierre Boulez. He also served for one season as an assistant conductor to Sergiu Comissiona at the Houston Symphony Orchestra.
